In this extraordinary follow-up to the critically acclaimed The Lucifer Principle, Howard Bloom - one of today's preeminent thinkers - offers us a bold rewrite of the evolutionary saga. He shows how plants and animals (including humans) have evolved together as components of a worldwide learning machine. He describes the network of life on Earth as one that is, in fact, a "complex adaptive system," a global brain in which each of us plays a sometimes conscious, sometimes unknowing role. And he reveals that the World Wide Web is just the latest step in the development of this brain. These are theories as important as they are radical. Informed by twenty years of interdisciplinary research, Bloom takes us on a spellbinding journey back to the big bang to let us see how its fires forged primordial sociality. As he brings us back via surprising routes, we see how our earliest bacterial ancestors built multitrillion-member research-and-development teams a full 3.5 billion years ago. We watch him unravel the previously unrecognized strands of interconnectedness woven by crowds of trilobites, hunting packs of dinosaurs, flocks of flying lizards, troops of baboons making communal decisions, and adventurous tribes of protohumans spreading across continents but still linked by primitive forms of information networking. We soon find ourselves reconsidering our place in the world. Along the way, Bloom offers us exhilarating insights into the strange tricks of body and mind that have organized a variety of life forms: spiny lobsters, which, during the Paleozoic Era, participated in communal marching rituals; and bees, which, during the age of dinosaurs, conducted collective brainwork. This fascinating tour continues on to the sometimes brutal subculture wars that have spurred the growth of human civilization since the Stone Age. Bloom shows us how culture shapes our infant brains, immersing us in a matrix of truth and mass delusion that we think of as realit 1. Language: English. Narrator: Malcolm Hillgartner. Nowadays, the popularity of the Web encourages the development of Hypermedia Systems dedicated to e-learning. However, most of the available Web teaching systems apply the traditional paper-based learning resources presented as html pages, making no use of the new capabilities provided by the Web. There is a challenge to develop educative systems that adapt their instructional content to the style of learning, context, and background of each student. Another research issue concerns the ability to effectively interoperate on the Web reusing learning objects. This work addresses these two issues by using the technologies of the Semantic Web. Our approach models knowledge regarding educative content and learner s profile as Web ontologies whose lexicons are refinements of standard vocabularies Dublin Core and LOM. Those ontologies contain the necessary knowledge for the adaptive on-the-fly configuration of learning objects tailored to the profile of each individual learner. Our declarative approach facilitates maintenance by avoiding hardcoding of configuration strategies and facilitates the widespread reuse of learning objects by publishing their configuration knowledge.

Adaptive e- learning is concerning about the adaptivity of the visualization of courses' content according to the student preferences. A few recent researches are concerning about the examination process. In spite of that exams is providing the feedback about the integrity of the learning process. Traditional test does n' t provide an efficient method s to form exams. The World Wide Web evolution provides users a large amount of information which has led to the emergence of the semantic Web and which aims at making sense of its content and displays meaningful information to users. Therefore, the semantic Web provides a common framework c alled " Ontology" that allows to organize, share and the reuse of data across the web applications. Ontology is considered to be the semantics building technique. Generate Ontologies using courses' syllabus help for covering the whole topic' s content in test construction. Ontologies organize the course content in some major topics. The proposed system provide a scientific method to form exams according to the course curriculum. And adaptively select questions to evaluate student knowledge taking into account their ability level.

The emergence of multiple web pages day by day leads to the development of the Semantic Web technology. A World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standard for storing semantic web data is the Resource Description Framework (RDF). To enhance the efficiency in the execution time for querying large RDF graphs, the evolving meta-heuristic algorithms become an alternate to the traditional query optimization methods. This book focuses on the problem of query optimization of semantic web data. An efficient nature inspired algorithm called Adaptive Cuckoo Search (ACS) for querying and generating optimal query plan for large RDF graphs is discussed in this book.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Intelligent Tutoring Systems, ITS 2016, held in Zagreb, Croatia, in June 2016.The 20 revised full papers, 32 short papers, 35 posters, and 7 young researchers' track papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 147 submissions. The specific theme of the ITS 2016 conference is "Adaptive Learning in Real World Contexts".ITS 2016 covers a wide range of topics such as: intelligent tutoring, informal learning environments, learning as a side effect of interactions, collaborative and group learning, communities of practice and social networks, simulation-based learning and serious games, dialogue and discourse during learning interactions, co-adaptation between technologies and human learning, ubiquitous and mobile learning environments, empirical studies of learning with technologies, understanding human learning on the web, adaptive support for learning, models of learners, diagnosis and feedback, modeling of motivation, metacognition, and affect aspects of learning, recommender systems for learning, virtual pedagogical agents and learning companions, ontological modeling, semantic web technologies and standards for learning, multi-agent and service oriented architectures for learning and tutoring environments, educational exploitation of data mining and machine learning techniques, instructional design principles or design patterns for educational environments, authoring tools and development methodologies for advanced learning technologies, domain-specific learning technologies, e.g. language, mathematics, reading, science, medicine, military, and industry, non conventional interactions between artificial intelligence and human learning, and privacy and security in e-learning environments.
